Welcome to Personal-Privacy website!
Only the Paranoid Survives!!
This was the tagline of one of my favorite TV shows called Person of Interest. Every day, we get more news about how our privacy is invaded by tech companies. Right now, we can safely assume that our social security number, phone number, home address, and many more private information are available online. So, for a while, I was trying to see how to keep what was left of my privacy. Soon, I discovered no silver bullet to accomplish what I wanted; it is a long journey, and taking control of my data involves many small steps.
So, I started with a personal server; I had an old laptop and installed Ubuntu as a virtual server. I am not a tech expert, not by a long shot! So, I watched videos to learn how to install Ubuntu and its different applications. Soon, I was introduced to Nextcloud. It is a self-hosted file-sharing service like Dropbox or Google Drive. Naturally, I got very excited: my files won’t be kept on someone else’s server. Then, I installed my VPN server; next, I upgraded the security of my Wi-Fi at home to the business standard of WPA2 Enterprise. I found open-source self-hosted applications to share my location with my family, have private video calls on my server, and many other features that I did not know existed for free.
I learned that in this new age, you cannot cut yourself from the big tech companies. You must still use Google, Amazon, and Microsoft’s products and services. However, you can improve your privacy considerably. It takes time and has a steep learning curve, but it is possible. I also found out that privacy and security go together. It is not only the big tech who is looking for your data but also ransomware attacks and other forms of cybersecurity issues are threatening every individual.
Now, I want to share my experience with you. If you also share my concern about your privacy, I hope my website helps you. Please feel free to leave comments on my posts; I am fairly new to all of these, but I constantly try to improve the website, and I will add new posts very soon.
As this is a privacy oriented website, it does not use any coockies or attempt to track you. Also, like anyone esle, I hate ads :D
